At the Northwest Territories Teachers’ Association (NWTTA), we are dedicated to empowering educators across the territory. As a professional organization representing approximately 950 teachers, we provide essential advocacy, support, and professional development opportunities to strengthen the teaching profession in the Northwest Territories. With a passionate team based in Yellowknife, we work to ensure our members receive the resources and representation they deserve.
The Member Services position plays a vital role in supporting and advocating for members by providing expert guidance on contract interpretation and addressing inquiries related to pay disputes, benefit entitlements, and teacher certification. In addition to offering direct member assistance, this role will assist with NWTTA communications and take on additional responsibilities as assigned by the Executive Director.
This role requires a proactive individual who is passionate about supporting teachers and strengthening education in the Northwest Territories. Through a combination of expertise, qualifications, and training this person will possess:
Member Advocacy & Labour Relations:
- Expertise in labour relations and collective agreement interpretation.
- Strong skills in advocacy and member representation.
Communication & Problem-Solving:
- Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Proven experience in conflict resolution and problem-solving.
Leadership & Collaboration:
- Ability to build and maintain positive relationships with stakeholders.
- Demonstrated leadership skills with a commitment to teamwork.
Knowledge & Expertise:
- Familiarity with the three NWTTA Collective Agreements, NWTTA Bylaws and Policies, as well as relevant Acts and Regulations.
- Understanding of teachers’ and principals’ roles and responsibilities.
While not essential, eligibility for an NWT Teacher’s Certificate would be an asset.
